through the window

the view, of course
vacuuming it in for decades
and glancing in while walking past
(furtive looks at other people’s lives
though never did I see an indiscretion)

and uncurtained at night
or flung open at night
and leapt through
into the unimpeachable

of course, it was only a first floor window
I wasn’t hurt
but my heart was made up
I could never climb back
