#1 1994
a poem for younger readers from my hypertext novel axel-and-alice
Alice dreams
Alice dreams
and in her dream
she sits among the mountains
like a queen
below
the rivers flow
and cities glitter
in the scene
she lifts her hand
to trace the sand
that curls around the coast
to kiss the sea
she licks her lips
and blows the ships
beyond her reach
she’s wise and mean
she lets her finger
almost linger
on forest fur
that’s never seen
then she stands
above the lands
and stalks towards
the sea
