double sonnet

between the salt pool
and the rocket

between the sigh
and the meteorite

between the scream
and the blood

particles of meat
at high velocity

sing outraged shocking quick
and tiny songs

between the limelight and the starlight
in this tent

between the moonlight and the daylight
rent

with decision
is the price we pay

for the desert
our howls, which articulate

my
pantomime

the giant that laughs
the squid that plays

the child that understands
but does not say

what his mother means
by lying naked

in country dreams among
the dead
