letterbox rivals

letterbox rivals
we jumpstart our hearts
and resuscitate ourselves
mouth to mouth
with accordion sonatas

then race to jam junk
into already overwhelmed
apartments deliver
deaf messages
to foreign ministers who play

by courier paper wars
with gloves on fire
cross country snails we leave
trails
for clever clouds that follow

our bare and rapid
feet sniff moss
extract our history
with teabag tampons
some strings attached

we wish we were balloons
to rise in anthems instead
we squeak our melody
erratic on a podium
with laurels crowned
