sometime between 1991 and 1996
a poem for younger readers from my hypertext novel axel-and-alice
the choir screeched
the choir screeched
in the wind
the children’s eyes were hard as marbles
in the wind
their noses ran streams of silver
in the wind
their lips pursed in purple knots
in the wind
their teeth were chipped china
in the wind
their bodies gaunt as galley slaves
in the wind
their hair whipped like wizards
in the wind
