here’s the most recent version of this poem, which can only work pictorially (thanks to the unknown author of Reich Autumn for page 239 of their book being reproduced in its entirety in ‘unrepentant’ Führer – this being the only page of the book I have seen. It was lying on vacant land in about 2010 and I photographed it but did not touch it — so I haven’t seen page 240)

unrepentant führer

solid as the sky is long
hard edged avalon

was not programmed
for low flying metal

time fidgets, a composition
in pain and affray

this sitter for his portrait outsits us
paddling over tartarus

he knows he’s suited for
far more than this
